How to Improve Emotional Intelligence

Increase Self-Awareness

Self-awareness is the foundation of emotional intelligence. Research suggests that individuals with higher self-awareness have better emotional regulation and decision-making abilities. To increase self-awareness, take time for introspection and reflection.

Pay attention to your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in different situations. Notice any patterns or triggers that influence your emotional responses. Mindfulness practices, such as meditation or journaling, have been shown to enhance self-awareness by fostering a non-judgmental observation of your inner experiences.

Practice Emotional Regulation:

Emotional regulation is the ability to manage and control your emotions effectively. It is a key component of emotional intelligence. Neuroscience research indicates that regulation of emotions involves the interplay between the prefrontal cortex and the amygdala, which are brain regions involved in decision-making and emotional processing, respectively.

Techniques such as deep breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, or engaging in activities that promote relaxation, like yoga or listening to calming music, have been shown to activate the prefrontal cortex and regulate emotional responses.

Enhance Empathy:

Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. It plays a crucial role in building positive relationships and fostering emotional connections. Research has shown that practicing empathy can increase prosocial behavior and enhance well-being.

To enhance empathy, actively listen to others without judgment, validate their emotions, and try to understand their perspectives. Engaging in perspective-taking exercises and regularly practicing acts of kindness can also strengthen empathy.

Improve Social Skills:

Social skills are essential for effective communication, collaboration, and building healthy relationships. Research suggests that individuals with higher social competence tend to have better mental health and overall well-being. To improve social skills, focus on active listening, which involves paying attention, clarifying, and summarizing what others are saying.

Practice effective verbal and non-verbal communication, such as maintaining eye contact, using open body language, and expressing yourself clearly. Additionally, learn conflict resolution techniques to address disagreements in a constructive manner.

Foster Positive Relationships:

Positive relationships have a significant impact on emotional well-being and happiness. Research indicates that individuals who have strong social support systems experience better physical and mental health outcomes. To foster positive relationships, surround yourself with supportive individuals who uplift your spirit and encourage personal growth.

Nurturing meaningful connections through open and honest communication, active participation in social activities, and engaging in acts of kindness towards others can contribute to the quality of your relationships.

Cultivate Gratitude:

Gratitude is a powerful practice that can enhance well-being and raise your vibration. Studies have shown that cultivating gratitude can improve positive emotions, increase life satisfaction, and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety.

To cultivate gratitude, regularly acknowledge and appreciate the positive aspects of your life. Keep a gratitude journal, where you write down things you are grateful for each day. Express gratitude to others by saying “thank you” or writing heartfelt notes of appreciation. Engaging in acts of kindness and volunteering can also foster feelings of gratitude.

Engage in Activities that Raise Your Vibration:

Vibrational energy refers to the energetic state of an individual that affects their emotional well-being. Engaging in activities that bring you joy and align with your values can raise your vibrational energy. Participate in hobbies or creative pursuits that spark your passion and ignite a sense of flow.

Engage in regular physical exercise, as it releases endorphins and promotes a positive mood. Spending time in nature has also been shown to enhance well-being and uplift spirits. Find activities that resonate with you and make them a part of your routine to raise your vibration.

While these steps are supported by research and neuroscience, it’s important to remember that individual experiences may vary. Consider working with a mental health professional who can provide personalized guidance based on your specific needs and circumstances.

How to Develop Emotional Intelligence on Command

Deep Insight Journaling

Start writing down your goals and everything you love to do every single day. You will never stop writing. Next time you grab a journal or your notebook, or whatever you write on, write down at least 50 goals that you can think of ever accomplishing in your life.

Now you may think you have a million things that you could accomplish, but the amazing thing about that is; that is simply not true. Once you start writing, your brain can only think of your first deepest desires. Which amounts to about 5-10.

If you are having trouble writing some goals down, or just need some really good ones, here’s a technique that we like to do to spark ideas, passions, interests, and purpose.

You can start by writing a bunch of inspiring journaling prompts that can help you jog your mind and create energy. Here are a quick couple of questions for you to get a jumpstart.

Then after those 10 goals that you have written down, this is where you have to start thinking and start dreaming. This, my friends, sparks happiness, excitement, and pure enthusiasm to go for what truly moves you.

It will give you more energy throughout your day as you start to make aware of them. If done daily it will immediately increase your vibration and energy levels which provides more wisdom in the emotional intelligence category.

Work on Your Why

Every week, write down your “why” and your “purpose” for your life. Something about writing the real, full-in-depth reason as to why you do the things you do in your life that will lead to your ultimate success, is so exhilarating. You begin to work magic in your mind where energy builds and inspires you.

It’ll make you feel warm and fiery inside to the point where you have to stop writing and start executing. It is that powerful.

Use a notebook or a journal and start with the reason why you wish to attain what you desire in life. Whatever that may mean to you. It could be about your relationship, your kids, your job or career, your business, your family, or anything that holds true to your heart.

Then write the reason why you live for it. After you compile these two answers, I want you to write a step-by-step action game plan to attain the final outcome of what you desire.

Try this every day and see what it starts to do to you. It will increase your vibration and emotional intelligence by a thousand and you will start to live happier, healthier, more energized, and excited about life.

Practice the End Game

On this level, after you have practiced emotional intelligence tips #1 and 2, the next is visualizing your dreams and taking action. Most people have heard of the term, visualization but only a select handful actually take that word and practice to heart.

Only those you see successful on tv, on Youtube, on The Radio, owning their own businesses, or running Fortune 500 Companies are the ones practicing this art. They have spoken into their existence their dreams and they are living them right before their eyes.

These people literally think about success and their dreams all day and night. Everything that they do, involves a part of their dream in it which is where they receive their passion from. Their dream gets them excited and raises their energy levels on a daily basis.

And guess what, You can too! All you have to do every day is a visual exercise. How? Sit alone, in a quiet space, whether in your bedroom, in your car, outside, in the woods, in the basement, it doesn’t matter, just sit Indian style, in meditation pose with your legs crossed, hands by your sides; close your eyes, take a few long deep breaths and calm your nerves.

When you have a sense of stability and relaxation, and your brain stops thinking about a bunch of thoughts, start to focus your attention on your ultimate dream. What does success look like to you? Think about everything that will make you happy once you attain it.

It may seem silly to do or even challenging to do it longer than 30- 60 seconds but the more times you do it, the better and clearer your dreams and desires will be.

You will then start to manifest your dreams into reality. Do this a few times a day for a minute or 2 to just sit and think while breathing. Practice this until you get better and you will begin to see things happen in your life that you thought wouldn’t come any sooner.

Not only this, but you will then understand how to improve your vibration and vibrate higher with this added emotional intelligence strategy.

Vision Boards

Make a vision board while listening to your favorite music. I know I know, you did not expect this one; but it is essential to your success in building healthy healing habits. Most people don’t want to make a vision board, not because they don’t want to, but because they feel as though they don’t need to. They have it all mapped out in their head. That is simply not the most effective approach to manifesting your dreams of being the most successful, happy, peaceful, and healthy you, you can possibly be. The goal here for today is to get everything out of your head to where you can visually see it. Where you can smell it, hear it and eventually; touch it. To touch your dreams is to have possession of them in your reality. But first, you must visualize it like a pro.

How to Make A Vision Board That Works

Create a vision board with the first 5 things you can think of that we practiced in emotional intelligence tip #1 and think about what you truly deeply want in your life before jotting it down.

That end result that you wish for, whether it is that big dream home or the island you wish to buy, the business you always envisioned having, or the car you wish to own is what you’ll work on primarily.

To do this, just browse the internet and pick the best photos to support this, and write compelling enough quotes to attain it. You can get help from one of our go-to resources here.

Once you’re done, stare at it every single day for 66 days, only for a few seconds to a few minutes at a time until you receive your very first sign that your reality is coming into existence.

The main focus, however, is you still have to put your first steps forward as you are doing everything that you need to do to acquire this that you desire.

You still have to put in the work. It does not float to you. However, with this practice, it will be guaranteed to work and come to you whatever you desire through this practice if done consistently.

That is all you have to do. Start small, it doesn’t have to be a big board, it could be just big enough to put on your laptop background screen saver. But start, make a decision to do something new, to build upon your creativity because it is vital to your health as you feed not only your body but your mind as well.

Final Thoughts on Emotional Intelligence

However, it is necessary if you wish to become the best version of yourself. Any great overachiever will tell you this. Hint Hint.

Journaling and envisioning are highly important as you can see. These habits however will put a spark to your passions, visions, and purpose in your life. Be sure to start with baby steps every day until they become second nature to do.

I can almost guarantee you if done correctly and consistently, it will work for you. I say almost because it is all on you.

The Challenge
